The incident occurred during the night of Sunday, September 6 to Monday, September 7, 2026, causing extensive material damage but fortunately resulting in no casualties.
How the disaster unfolded
The flames erupted shortly after midnight, originating in the market’s temporary relocation zone. Fed by wooden structures and highly flammable materials, the fire rapidly swept through neighboring stalls and storage hangars.
Emergency teams, including firefighters, local police, and the National Civil Protection Agency (ANPC), rushed to the scene immediately after the alarm was raised. Their coordinated efforts managed to contain the blaze during the night, preventing it from consuming the entire commercial hub.
