N’Djamena is hosting the 25th edition of the International Pharmaceutical Forum, a pivotal gathering of health experts, pharmaceutical professionals, and African delegates. This year’s theme focuses on broadening access to healthcare while boosting local drug production—a critical step toward addressing Africa’s pharmaceutical challenges.
The event has drawn participation from across the continent, with representatives from government agencies, healthcare institutions, and private sector stakeholders. Under the banner of ‘enhancing healthcare access through local manufacturing’, discussions will center on policies, innovations, and partnerships essential for sustainable health solutions.
Tchad’s leadership in african health initiatives
Addressing the forum, the Prime Minister of Tchad, Allah Maye Halina, extended a warm welcome to attending delegations, emphasizing Tchad’s commitment to regional health cooperation. He highlighted the importance of collaboration in overcoming shared pharmaceutical challenges, from supply chain gaps to regulatory hurdles.
The Prime Minister underscored Tchad’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its healthcare system, including investments in local pharmaceutical production and expanded access to essential medicines. ‘Africa must produce its own vaccines, medications, and medical supplies to meet its people’s needs,’ he stated, calling for collective action to reduce dependency on imports.
key discussions on local production and policy
The Minister of Public Health and Prevention, Dr. Abdelmadjid Abderahim Mahamat, framed the forum as a platform for actionable solutions. ‘We must identify practical ways to improve drug quality, streamline regulations, and foster innovation,’ he noted, stressing the role of the forum in shaping policy.
Speaking on behalf of InterOrdre, Laroussi Mustapha reinforced the theme’s urgency, linking local manufacturing to tangible outcomes: ‘Every medication produced locally is a step toward healthier families and stronger communities.’ He also highlighted the role of hospital pharmacies in ensuring safe, high-quality care.
a forum for transformative health outcomes
The International Pharmaceutical Forum 2026 is more than a dialogue—it’s a call to action. By uniting policymakers, industry leaders, and healthcare providers, the event aims to translate discussions into measurable progress, from policy reforms to on-the-ground healthcare improvements across Africa.
