Gabon’s president and Libreville mayor discuss capital city modernization

The President of the Republic recently held a working session with the Mayor of Libreville, Eugène Mba, as part of a routine assessment of local government performance. The meeting served to evaluate the progress of municipal executives and to strengthen the partnership between the state and local administrations to better serve the population.

Strategic roadmap and urban transformation

During this audience, Mayor Eugène Mba provided a comprehensive progress report on the strategic roadmap established at the beginning of his tenure. He also introduced a restructured organizational framework for the city council and outlined a new action plan designed to revitalize the capital’s management. The discussions primarily focused on large-scale structural projects intended to permanently transform the face of Libreville.

Key priorities identified during the meeting include the reorganization of urban spaces, the construction of modern parking facilities, and the creation of new green and botanical zones. There is also a strong emphasis on curbing the illegal occupation of public land and enhancing local infrastructure to improve the daily lives of residents. A significant portion of the plan is dedicated to the modernization of municipal administration through the digitalization of services.

Digitalization and sanitation challenges

This strategic digital shift aims to simplify administrative procedures for citizens, boost the quality of public services, and ensure greater transparency in municipal governance. Furthermore, it is expected to secure financial operations and significantly increase the commune’s internal revenue. Beyond technology, the Head of State insisted on the urgent need to accelerate urban sanitation efforts. Addressing the challenges of waste management, he reminded the mayor that cleanliness is a fundamental requirement for any modern capital.

Consequently, sustained efforts must be directed toward improving the collection, transport, and processing of household waste to ensure a healthy environment for all. Reaffirming his vision for a modern and prestigious Gabon, the President noted that Libreville, as the nation’s showcase, must set an example by meeting international standards in urban planning, local governance, and service delivery.

The President urged the Mayor to demonstrate rigor, innovation, and efficiency in executing these projects. This meeting highlights the government’s commitment to making local authorities central players in national development while keeping the daily concerns of citizens at the heart of public policy.
