Félix Tshisekedi has won the presidential election in Democratic Republic of Congo for a third term, according to official results announced by the Constitutional Court on Wednesday. The Congolese leader secured 9.3 million votes out of 24 million cast, surpassing his main rival Jean-Pierre Bemba.
The ruling party of Tshisekedi, the Movement for the Liberation of the Congo (MLC), won a majority in parliament. The election was seen as crucial to DRC‘s stability and economic growth, with many countries watching from abroad. In his victory speech, Tshisekedi pledged to address corruption and improve living standards.
The Congolese president had already won one term in 2019. He took office after the assassination of President Joseph Kabila in 2015. Tshisekedi’s third term is set to begin on January 24, 2026.
