Digital traffic enforcement in Burkina Faso shows early success

Twelve hours after its official launch, Burkina Faso’s digital traffic enforcement system has already proven its effectiveness. On August 1st, 2026, at midnight sharp, the automated system began detecting traffic violations in real time. By noon the same day, Security Minister Mahamadou Sana visited the Video Surveillance Supervision Center to monitor the process firsthand, accompanied by General Director of Transmissions and IT Zakaria Hebie.

The minister commended the technical teams for their professionalism, emphasizing their vital contribution to deploying this groundbreaking solution. Within just half a day, the system recorded 1,099 violations, including seatbelt non-compliance, red light violations, speeding, and phone use while driving. Five offenders have already settled their fines through the FASO ARZEKA platform.

Mahamadou Sana highlighted that these initial results validate the system’s operational readiness and underscore the government’s commitment to leveraging digital technology for enhanced road safety. Authorities continue to stress that strict adherence to traffic regulations remains the most effective way to prevent violations.
