The Constitutional Council has declared itself incompetent to rule on the status of Ousmane Sonko, who holds the position of the state’s second personality. This decision immediately sparked strong reactions, notably from the Front for the Defense of Democracy and the Republic (FDR), which acknowledged the ruling in a communiqué. For the coalition, this declaration of incompetence by the Council does not alter what it considers the inherent illegality of the situation, labeling it a “forfeiture.” The FDR emphasizes that every citizen bears the responsibility to oppose this state of affairs, which it deems contrary to moral principles and the common good.
Furthermore, the Conference of Leaders of the FDR has announced its unwavering resolve to undertake all pertinent initiatives, strictly adhering to the laws of the Republic, to establish what it terms a “democratic alternative.” To this end, the coalition is issuing a broad appeal to political parties, civil society organizations, trade unions, and the youth, urging them to form a united front.
