The Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Chad has mandated the immediate withdrawal of numerous yogurt batches produced in N’Djamena. This decisive action, announced on July 10, follows rigorous inspections that unveiled serious deviations from established health and quality standards.
Minister of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Guibolo Fanga Mathieu, confirmed that the Food Quality Control Center (CECOQDA) conducted comprehensive verification missions. These inspections took place between June 1 and June 5, 2026, targeting various yogurt manufacturing facilities within the capital city.
Analysis of the collected samples revealed unsatisfactory microbiological and physicochemical quality, according to findings from the CECOQDA reports. Furthermore, significant deficiencies were identified regarding fundamental hygiene practices, proper conservation methods, and overall sanitary safety protocols within the production units.
The companies specifically named by the ministry as non-compliant are: Tami Yaourt, Alkhiza Yaourt, Lazza Yaourt, and Yaourt Gamar.
Citing potential health risks to consumers, the minister has ordered the immediate removal of all yogurt products from these four companies from the market. Their distribution has also been suspended indefinitely until further notice.
The ministry has urged the implicated businesses to promptly align with CECOQDA’s recommendations to ensure their products meet current regulatory standards and are fit for consumption.
Looking ahead, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry stated that these vital quality control measures will be expanded to encompass all food production and commercialization entities across the entire national territory. The public is strongly encouraged to exercise heightened vigilance when purchasing food items.
