Chad advances digital overhaul of technical and vocational training

The Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Professional Training hosted a pivotal national workshop in N’Djamena on July 10, 2026, to validate ground-level findings before finalizing the country’s first-ever National Strategy for Digital Transformation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The event brought together key education stakeholders to review, refine, and endorse a critical assessment document that will shape the future of digital education policies in Chad.

This initiative aligns with the Pan-African Initiative for Digital Transformation of TVET Systems, supported by international bodies including UNESCO, the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), the African Union, the African Development Bank, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and the GIZ-SIFA program. Its goal is to systematically modernize Chad’s technical and vocational training sector by integrating digital tools and methodologies. The preliminary study engaged over 200 participants from 57 Technical and Vocational Training Centers (CFTP) nationwide, utilizing both field missions and digital surveys to gather comprehensive data across all academic districts.

The opening session, led by Dr. Djininboh Gabriel, Director General of Human Resources, Statistics, and Digitalization, emphasized the strategic importance of digital transformation in aligning training systems with technological advancements and evolving job market demands. He highlighted the government’s commitment to leveraging digital innovation as a cornerstone for modernizing TVET, noting that the analysis revealed both significant progress and critical gaps.

Key challenges identified include governance inefficiencies, insufficient digital infrastructure, limited connectivity, unreliable energy supply, inadequate trainer qualifications, and the slow integration of digital competencies into curricula. Dr. Gabriel urged participants to contribute constructive feedback to refine the report, ensuring the final strategy is practical, inclusive, and responsive to Chad’s unique socio-economic context.

Once validated, the report will serve as the foundation for developing the National Digital Transformation Strategy for TVET and its corresponding action plan for 2026–2030. The ultimate vision is to establish a robust, future-ready training ecosystem that meets the evolving needs of the labor market and positions Chad as a leader in skill development across the region.
