The Movement for the Rebirth of Cameroon (MRC) is in mourning following the sad news of the death of “Maman Kamto,” a profoundly committed activist within the opposition party. According to reports, she succumbed to a cerebral vascular accident (AVC) on Monday, June 22, 2026. This tragic event marks her third stroke within a span of recent months, highlighting the severe health challenges she faced.
“Maman Kamto” first gained public recognition in 2025 during a significant demonstration held outside the MRC headquarters in Grand Moulin, located in Douala, Cameroon’s economic capital. This pivotal moment occurred when Maurice Kamto, returning from a European tour, found his path to the party’s regional office in Douala blocked by police.
Amidst the widespread discontent among militants gathered at the scene, “Maman Kamto” distinguished herself. Holding a symbolic peace tree, she bravely stood her ground against the security forces. Furthermore, her dedication extended to regularly visiting political prisoners who had been incarcerated in connection with the post-electoral crisis. Her unwavering commitment to both direct action and humanitarian support cemented her legacy within the party and among its sympathizers.
