Benjamin Cremaschi seals permanent move to Parme after Serie A deal activated

The former Inter Miami midfielder Benjamin Cremaschi has finalized his permanent transfer to Serie A side Parme, with the Italian club exercising their buyout clause for just under $5 million. The American talent, who featured in nine matches for the Italian outfit before suffering a meniscus injury in March, will see his season cut short by the setback.

The permanent transfer opens up financial flexibility for the Miami-based club, allowing them to restructure their wage budget. Cremaschi, a product of Inter Miami’s academy, had previously been named the US Soccer Young Player of the Year and has earned three caps for the national team.

From loan to permanent deal

After months of speculation, Cremaschi’s move to Italy becomes official as Parme activated the €4 million clause in his loan agreement, which was originally set to expire in September 2025. The 21-year-old has been a standout performer in US youth football and is seen as a promising talent with room for growth in Europe’s top flight.

A challenging start in Parma

Despite joining the Italian side, Cremaschi struggled to find his rhythm early on. Signed around the same time as Argentine international Rodrigo De Paul, the American midfielder faced difficulties regaining his peak form. While he made his debut in October, his appearances became increasingly sporadic before a knee injury in March prematurely ended his campaign.

Frustration led to departure from Miami

Cremaschi, a naturally attacking midfielder, found himself sidelined under former coach Javier Mascherano. With limited playing time and criticism of tactical decisions, his frustration grew. In a candid interview last August, he expressed his desire for more game time. “I’m frustrated—I want to play,” he stated. “The most important thing for me right now is to perform at a high level, and to do that, I need minutes and experience. I haven’t played much recently, and I don’t believe it’s about my performance.”

His comments hinted at tension within the club, prompting Miami to secure a loan move that would allow him to regain confidence and match fitness.

Miami’s transfer outlook brightens

With Cremaschi’s departure now permanent, Inter Miami could benefit in the upcoming transfer window. Reports suggest the Herons are eyeing former Manchester United star Casemiro, who is currently a free agent. With an open roster spot and financial leeway from Cremaschi’s exit, Miami appears well-positioned to reinforce their squad with high-caliber talent.
