Benin education minister outlines plans to strengthen primary schooling

Armand Kuyema Natta, Benin’s Minister of Pre-School and Primary Education, launched his first official tour on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, visiting the departments of Ouémé and Plateau. During the meetings, the minister outlined his agenda with a clear message: “strengthen what works and innovate where needed.” He urged teams to build on recent achievements while launching new initiatives to enhance the education system. Describing himself as “your servant,” he emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue with field-level leaders.

The minister highlighted the strong performance in the 2026 primary school certificate (CEP) exams, as well as the successful implementation of programs and monitoring systems. He noted that rising success rates should encourage educators to maintain their efforts and reinforce existing structures across all levels.

Addressing critical needs in staffing and infrastructure

Education officials raised pressing concerns, including the urgent need for additional teaching staff, enhanced initial and ongoing teacher training, and improved access to IT equipment for central and technical departments. They also discussed the relocation of services to the Cité administrative d’Ahossougbéta, with the minister confirming government efforts to expedite this process without specifying timelines or implementation details.
