Bargny rally: Ousmane Sonko rallies Pastef militants for membership drive

Ousmane Sonko launched a political tour on Saturday, visiting Bargny, Sébikotane, Khombole, and Bambey. The Pastef leader left Keur Gorgui to rally militants and intensify efforts for the party’s membership card sales campaign.

In Bargny, the crowd welcomed him with enthusiasm. Addressing the gathering, the former Prime Minister stressed that the campaign was crucial for the party’s future. “My visit is to encourage members to sell membership cards,” he said, urging local leaders to fully engage in the initiative.

Strengthening local support

Sonko highlighted the campaign’s role in preparing for upcoming elections. “Selling these cards will secure our electoral success,” he declared, pointing to the strong turnout in Bargny as proof of the party’s deep roots in the community.

He also acknowledged the hardships faced by Bargny residents under the previous administration, expressing solidarity with victims of past political violence. “I remember what you endured under Macky Sall. I have not forgotten Bargny,” he affirmed.

Addressing political challenges

Discussing Pastef’s broader political challenges, Sonko admitted that the party still lacks the necessary tools to fully realize its ambitions. He cited financial constraints, political accountability, and development hurdles as key obstacles.

“We don’t yet have the means to match our ambitions,” he admitted, while reaffirming confidence in the progress made since taking office. He called on militants to remain disciplined amid rising political tensions, emphasizing that membership drives were vital for consolidating the party’s vision.

“We’re 80% toward our goal. The final 20% depends on this campaign,” he concluded, urging supporters to stay focused and resist provocation.
