A prominent figure in Ziguinchor has called for national unity amid rising political tensions in Senegal. Speaking on iRadio, Chérif Bouna Samsidine Aïdara emphasized the need for resilience and dialogue to navigate the country through these challenging times.
National unity urged as Senegal grapples with political uncertainty
The situation at the highest levels of government has sparked widespread concern among citizens. Chérif Bouna Samsidine Aïdara highlighted the urgency of fostering peace and stability, stating that the current climate is unsettling for many Senegalese.
« We are witnessing a crisis at the top of the state, » he remarked. « Our leaders must take the time to work together and find common ground. » He stressed that both the President and the Prime Minister must prioritize resilience and uphold the values of the International Day of Peace to guide the nation forward.
An appeal for dialogue and stability
Chérif Bouna Samsidine Aïdara went on to express the fears shared by many Senegalese about the current political climate. « What we are seeing and hearing does not reassure us, » he said. « People are afraid. We do not want our country to face such turmoil at the highest levels. »
In a direct appeal to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, he urged them to prioritize dialogue and reconciliation for the sake of Senegal’s future.
