urgent repair underway at N’Djamena’s hilton drainage site
The mayor of N’Djamena inspected the damaged Hilton drainage system to fast-track repairs ahead of the rainy season.
City official inspection
The mayor of N’Djamena, Mr. Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye, led a high-level team on May 28 to assess the flood control infrastructure at the Hilton drainage site. The visit was part of urgent preparations to mitigate flood risks as the rainy season approaches.
During the tour, Mr. Gadengar Roasna Rodrigue, director of urban planning at the central city hall, explained that the Hilton drainage system plays a critical role in managing water flow. It channels rainwater toward the Chari River while preventing river flooding from pushing water back into the city. He noted that the floodgate mechanism, designed to block rising river waters, has sustained damage, leaving the system vulnerable.
Despite the setback, preliminary measures have already been initiated to prepare for the upcoming rains. On-site, Mayor Abdoulaye issued direct orders to the roadworks department to prioritize repairs to the damaged floodgate, ensuring the system is fully operational before the first heavy downpours.
