The Tchad delegation’s presence at the World Urban Forum in Baku, Azerbaijan, has yielded significant progress. The country has been officially recognized as the 11th eligible nation for the UN Green Climate Fund’s Building Climate Resilience of Urban Populations (BCRUP) initiative, expanding the program’s membership to eleven countries.
This international endorsement highlights Tchad’s proactive stance in addressing pressing urban challenges such as devastating floods, mass displacement, and the escalating impacts of climate change on its cities and towns.
During the forum, the Tchad delegation, led by Minister Mahamat Assileck Halata, held a pivotal meeting with the Executive Director of UN-Habitat. The discussions centered on strengthening urban resilience strategies and exploring potential collaboration avenues. Following these talks, a preliminary project secured funding estimated between $900,000 and $1 million, paving the way for additional UN-Habitat investments in the coming months.
