Dakar, 29 june – National Assembly president Ousmane Sonko has described the constitutional reform passed on monday by majority deputies as “one of the most consolidating” because it helps perfect Senegal’s democracy and public management transparency.

“This constitutional reform is one of the most consolidating, allowing us to make giant strides in perfecting Senegalese democracy and transparency in public management,” he stated.

Sonko chaired the plenary session that examined bill no. 17/2026 on constitutional revision, an initiative by deputies from the Pastef-Les patriotes parliamentary group.

The parliamentary leader announced that the adopted text had been sent to the head of state “for further action.”

“I will not invoke article 103. I will ask the president of the republic to promulgate this law, purely and simply, because the constitutional council, whose decisions are binding on all public, administrative and political authorities, simultaneously carries out adoption and approval,” he indicated.

According to him, the vote on the bill marks the end of the adoption procedure for this important text.

Ousmane Sonko gave a historical overview of the revision process, which began several years ago.

“The amendments that have just been integrated into the constitution have gone through the entire political journey of our commitments,” he added.

“Dialogue is important, but not institutional. This dialogue existed,” Sonko said.

The president of the republic had called for a political dialogue that Pastef-Les patriotes attended along with many other political formations and organizations of all stripes, Sonko recalled.

He did not fail to congratulate the deputies who proposed the constitutional revision, which is “consistent with what came out of the dialogue.”

Regarding the asset declaration, the former prime minister assured that he would carry out this exercise very soon after leaving the head of government.

“I declared my assets as prime minister. I have three months to make another declaration upon leaving. And I will declare next week,” Ousmane Sonko announced.
