Ousmane Sonko bangs the table, declares Senegal’s stability unshakeable

Amid the political and media unrest sweeping the nation, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has forcefully reaffirmed the strength of state institutions and the maintenance of public order. Backed by his parliamentary majority, he declared that the National Assembly will remain the ultimate guardian of national stability.

His tone was firm, uncompromising, and reassuring. In a direct address to the Senegalese people, Sonko dismissed the rumors of tension and the specters of crisis often circulated in public discourse. For the head of government, Senegal’s stability is non-negotiable and will not be shaken under any circumstances.

Calling the current tensions mere ‘storms in teacups,’ Sonko condemned the agitation online and in some media outlets where certain voices predict gridlock in the National Assembly or even the risk of upheaval. ‘Nothing will move in this country, nothing, absolutely nothing,’ he hammered home.

To reinforce his stance, the President of the National Assembly recalled the political legitimacy underpinning his actions: a majority political formation, widespread popularity, and massive support from Senegal’s youth. This bloc, he asserted, acts as the natural bulwark against any attempt at destabilization.

Beyond the security rhetoric, the President of the National Assembly emphasized the country’s democratic foundations and the state’s impartiality. He reminded that official and judicial decisions ‘will apply to everyone’ without exception, thus ruling out any form of power abuse.

Senegal’s political future and direction will be determined solely through peaceful and democratic means. Sonko concluded by asserting that Senegalese citizens will ‘calmly go to each election’ to freely choose their leaders and exercise their sovereignty.
