Olympique Lyonnais will not receive any special allowances as they prepare for their European journey. Not yet fully qualified for the prestigious Champions League, OL must first navigate a challenging third preliminary round in early August, with the potential for playoff matches following a fortnight later.
These crucial playoff encounters are slated to take place just days before the commencement of the Ligue 1 championship, where Paulo Fonseca’s men are set to face Toulouse. The Lyon management formally approached the LFP via written correspondence, requesting a postponement of their opening Ligue 1 fixture. It was reported that “OL emphasized the broader interests of French football to bolster their appeal.”

However, the LFP delivered a negative response, firmly declining to reschedule any Ligue 1 matches right at the start of the championship season. Olympique Lyonnais will therefore need to adapt to the demanding schedule, should they successfully qualify for the Champions League playoffs.
