nantes vs toulouse: disciplinary commission confirms 0-0 draw and sanctions
FC Nantes faces a challenging start to their Ligue 2 campaign with a closed-door match and additional tribune closure following last month’s incidents.
disciplinary ruling finalized
The Ligue de football professionnel (LFP) disciplinary commission has officially confirmed the 0-0 result from the final Ligue 1 fixture between FC Nantes and Toulouse on May 17. The decision comes after thorough review of the match report, which documented the circumstances of the game’s definitive interruption.
The commission also handed down sanctions against FC Nantes, including a closed-door match at the Beaujoire stadium and the closure of the Loire Tribune for two additional games.
In their official statement, the LFP emphasized: “Following examination of the investigation report, the commission has officially ratified the score achieved on the pitch at the moment of definitive interruption (0-0). Furthermore, the commission has imposed the following penalties: one closed-door match at the Beaujoire stadium, followed by the closure of the Loire Tribune for two consecutive fixtures.”
match disruption and aftermath
On May 17, with Nantes already relegated to Ligue 2, their encounter with Toulouse was halted after smokescreens were launched and supporters invaded the pitch from the Loire Tribune. The situation escalated before order was restored by riot police units. Referee Stéphanie Frappart subsequently announced the definitive interruption of the match, citing “security concerns as determined by prefectural authorities”.
This incident marks a significant challenge for Nantes as they begin their Ligue 2 journey, with their opening home fixture set to proceed without any spectators in attendance.
