football: FC Nantes faces closed-door match following toulouse clash
The French football governing body has handed down a stern punishment to FC Nantes following a dramatic pitch invasion during their final Ligue 1 fixture against Toulouse.
The Ligue 1 disciplinary committee has delivered its verdict on the May 17 incident when Nantes supporters stormed the field in protest against their team’s relegation to Ligue 2. The commission imposed a complete closed-door match on the club as punishment for the pitch invasion.
Final score stands despite abandonment
Additionally, the governing body confirmed the 0-0 scoreline at the moment play was suspended as the official result, with no points deducted from either team.
In a further sanction, the Loire stand—from which the disturbances originated—will remain closed for two additional matches as part of the punishment handed to FC Nantes.
While the club avoided the most severe penalty of points deduction for next season’s Ligue 2 campaign, the closed-door match represents a significant setback for the Canaries.
