A nightmare evening unfolded at Nantes’ Beaujoire stadium on Sunday as the final Ligue 1 fixture of the season against Toulouse was abandoned in the 22nd minute. After unfurling contemptuous and offensive banners, ultras in the Tribune Loire section launched smoke bombs onto the pitch. The heavy police presence stationed nearby failed to prevent the escalation of violence.
