Nantes handed empty stadium punishment following pitch invasion against Toulouse
The disciplinary committee of France’s top football league has imposed severe sanctions on FC Nantes following a chaotic pitch invasion during last week’s match against Toulouse FC. The club will face a complete stadium closure for its next home game at the Stade de la Beaujoire, with an additional two-match ban for the Loire stand after supporters breached pitch-side barriers.
In a statement released Tuesday, the Ligue de Football Professionnel confirmed the penalties, emphasizing that such behavior will not be tolerated in French football. The decision comes after Nantes’ final Ligue 1 fixture of the season descended into disorder when supporters ran onto the pitch in celebration of the team’s victory, leading to temporary stoppage of play.
The ruling means Nantes will play their next home fixture behind closed doors, with only club officials and media personnel permitted inside the stadium. Security measures will be reviewed ahead of the forced closure, according to league regulations.
