Finishing fifth and missing out on the lucrative Champions League has left Olympique de Marseille in a precarious financial position.
The revenue shortfall from the absence of Champions League football forces the club to make this summer transfer window a period focused on sales. Even worse, the off-season could turn into a clearance sale for Marseille, as they lack leverage and must offload their most valuable assets.
The most significant of these is undoubtedly Mason Greenwood. The British striker had expressed a desire to remain in Ligue 1, but he is edging closer to a move to AS Roma, which has made him its top priority to strengthen its attack.
Gouiri also on the way out?
Another key figure in the offensive unit could also be packing his bags. Amine Gouiri is expected to leave Olympique de Marseille this summer.
Having arrived a year and a half ago from Stade Rennais, the Algerian international has won over new sporting director Grégory Lorenzi, who truly appreciates his technical profile. However, the executive has reportedly resigned himself to opening the door for his centre-forward in the event of an enticing offer.
