The bond between Morocco and the United Arab Emirates stands as a prime example of strategic partnership, rooted in deep historical ties forged by the late King Hassan II and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. These relations are defined by a striking alignment of visions, mutual political backing, a diversified economic partnership, and a shared commitment to global challenges.
The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, welcomed King Mohammed VI to his residence in Rabat on June 2 for a private visit. According to an official statement from the Royal Cabinet, the meeting provided a valuable opportunity for the two leaders to exchange perspectives on pressing international issues, particularly those affecting the Gulf and Middle East regions. The encounter underscored the enduring fraternal ties uniting both heads of state and their respective families.
The two nations have cemented an innovative and robust partnership, formalized in December 2023 by King Mohammed VI and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed. This framework aims to elevate their economic, commercial, industrial, and investment ties to match the strength of their political and social bonds, leveraging their complementary strengths to drive sustainable development and shared prosperity.
At the heart of this collaboration lies a foundation of unwavering mutual trust, enabling both sides to implement pragmatic initiatives that align with their common interests. The partnership is designed to foster operational and innovative models, supported by financial backing through public-private partnerships, investment funds, and strategic capital. Key focus areas include high-value projects, food security collaborations—particularly with the Office chérifien des phosphates (OCP) in fertilizer production—and joint ventures in tourism and real estate along the Mediterranean coast, as well as in Dakhla and Tarfaya. Additionally, efforts are underway to reconstruct and rehabilitate areas devastated by the Al Haouz earthquake.
Morocco places immense importance on the security and stability of its Gulf allies. During the recent conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, Morocco took a firm stance against Iranian aggression toward Gulf nations. King Mohammed VI personally conveyed full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates in a phone call with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, reaffirming Morocco’s unwavering support.
