An unexpected development unfolded recently in Cité Keur Gorgui, where the political bureau of PASTEF convened at the private residence of its leader, Ousmane Sonko.
While this pivotal gathering was in progress and journalists were stationed outside, Mamadou Goumbala made an unscheduled appearance. Not being an official invitee, his sudden arrival immediately captured the attention of everyone present near the residence.
Addressing the cameras, Goumbala delivered a powerful political message, earnestly calling for an immediate de-escalation of what he perceives as growing tensions between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko.
He articulated his firm belief that any internal differences at the highest levels of government should not overshadow the critical expectations of the Senegalese populace. Goumbala strongly emphasized the necessity for leaders to dedicate their focus entirely to the daily concerns of citizens, particularly addressing pressing social and economic challenges.
“The internal disagreements within the state leadership must cease,” Goumbala declared emphatically to reporters. “We elected these leaders to alleviate the hardships faced by the Senegalese people, not to engage in political calculations.”
Furthermore, Mamadou Goumbala implored both influential figures to protect their political understanding, stressing that their united front remains crucial for ensuring the stable and effective implementation of public policies. He reiterated that citizens primarily anticipate concrete achievements and tangible results, not internal political strife.
In a similar vein, he proposed that the observed internal frictions within the ruling majority might necessitate the establishment of broader frameworks for consultation. Such platforms, he suggested, could significantly bolster cohesion and unity within the current administration.
