Gabon is actively reinforcing its position within the continental market. On Friday, 11 September 2026, during a technical workshop focused on validating the revised national implementation strategy for the African Continental Free Trade Area (ZLECAf), the Minister of Commerce, SMEs-SMIs, and Youth Entrepreneurship held a strategic meeting with Adama Ekberg Coulibaly, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (CEA).
This high-level discussion underscores the government’s determination to boost Gabon’s participation in intra-African trade, ensuring that national enterprises are fully equipped to seize the vast opportunities presented by the continental free trade zone.
A strategic roadmap for continental trade integration
During the meeting, the CEA representative stressed how crucial it is for Gabon to establish an updated national framework to navigate this expansive market. This revised blueprint is designed to help the country outline its key trade priorities while guiding local economic players as they expand their reach into other African nations.
The CEA has reiterated its commitment to assisting Gabon throughout this implementation phase. This support will focus on enhancing national capacities, fostering private sector growth, and boosting the overall competitiveness of Gabonese firms.
Empowering young entrepreneurs and small businesses
A major focus of the updated framework is the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) alongside young entrepreneurs, who form the backbone of the national economy. The revised strategy aims to unlock specific mechanisms that facilitate their access to regional markets and integrate them into continental value chains.
For the Gabonese authorities, the ultimate objective is to translate regional trade agreements into tangible economic benefits. By driving business expansion, creating sustainable jobs, diversifying the economy, and elevating the value of local products, Gabon seeks to turn the ZLECAf into a powerful engine for domestic growth and private sector transformation.
