The final matchday of the Ligue 1 season took an ugly turn as two matches were disrupted by pitch invasions, with one game abandoned entirely in Nantes.

The last round of fixtures was overshadowed by unrest as supporters breached security barriers in both Nice and Nantes. While incidents at the Allianz Riviera remained under control, the situation at the Stade de la Beaujoire spiraled beyond recovery.

In Nice, ultras forced their way onto the pitch late in the game against Metz, clashing with riot police before being contained. However, the drama in Nantes escalated rapidly. With the home side already relegated, frustration boiled over early in the match against Toulouse.

At the 22-minute mark, dozens of Nantes supporters—many wearing masks—stormed the field, compelling players to retreat to the locker rooms. Despite a 40-minute delay, the referee had no choice but to call off the fixture entirely.

“This is disgraceful”

The abrupt end was a bitter blow for Nantes manager Vahid Halilhodžić, who was concluding his tenure in charge. “This is disgraceful. I wanted to go speak to the fans to tell them to stop. I understand their frustration, but not like this,” he remarked. “I’ve given everything as a coach and as a person. Unfortunately, the reality is harsh.”

The French Football League has yet to issue a formal statement but has launched an investigation. Nantes faces heavy sanctions, including potential points deductions for next season’s Ligue 2 campaign—a penalty previously enforced against Saint-Étienne four years ago after similar disturbances.
