French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu arrived in Rabat on Wednesday evening for a two-day official visit aimed at reinforcing the strategic partnership between France and Morocco amid growing diplomatic rapprochement.
Welcomed at the airport by Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, Lecornu is leading a delegation of twelve French ministers. The visit follows a period of fluctuating relations between Paris and Rabat, as both nations seek to deepen cooperation.
During his stay, Lecornu and Akhannouch will hold a bilateral meeting before co-chairing the 15th Franco-Moroccan High-Level Meeting. This long-standing dialogue framework, a key platform for political and economic consultation, has not convened since 2019.
Discussions will focus on strengthening economic exchanges, fostering cross-border investments, and advancing cooperation in security, defense, energy, infrastructure, and ecological transition.
Officials from both nations confirm that around fifteen agreements are expected to be signed during the visit.
Key areas include civil aviation, water management, strategic infrastructure, electricity interconnection, security cooperation, and multiple cultural initiatives.
In the cultural sphere, a strategic partnership between the Arab World Institute in Paris and Morocco’s Ministry of Culture is set to be finalized, aiming to enhance artistic, heritage, and academic exchanges between the two countries.
