Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko concluded his participation early in the patriotic walking event held on Sunday, May 17, 2026. This gathering, organized by Dakar’s Mayor Abass Fall, was themed “the march towards 2029.”
Reports from the scene indicated that the head of government found it impossible to continue the walk alongside other attendees due to significant overcrowding and a noticeable lack of order.
This development was met with strong disappointment by Dakar’s Mayor Abass Fall, who openly condemned the indiscipline displayed by certain individuals among the participants.
« We face a genuine challenge,» the mayor stated. «It is unacceptable to invite an authority figure here only for people to behave without discipline. This is not right. We gathered for a march, so why can’t participants maintain order? He had to leave because of this situation.»
When questioned by a journalist about the evident affection shown by activists towards Ousmane Sonko, Abass Fall responded, «Affection must be coupled with intelligence. One needs to be intelligent. This is indeed a serious issue!»
