Complaint against Ousmane Sonko upheld before investigators

The legal action initiated against Ousmane Sonko over remarks concerning the holy city of Touba remains firmly in place. This was confirmed on Tuesday by Serigne Makhtar Bousso, spokesperson for the complainants, during his hearing in connection with the case.

The complaint stems from a request submitted to the public prosecutor on 14 July 2026 by Serigne Modou Maroun Niang and Serigne Mourtalla Bousso. The two plaintiffs, who identify as grandsons of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, take issue with statements made by the president of the National Assembly at the inauguration of Pastef’s headquarters in Mbacké. Sonko is said to have declared that illicit funds had made their way into the holy city of Touba.

The complainants argue that such comments could tarnish the honour and reputation of Touba, a city established by Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba on principles of religious devotion and integrity. They are calling on the author of these remarks to clarify the meaning of his words and provide evidence to support them. Serigne Makhtar Bousso reiterated this demand, insisting that full transparency is needed regarding statements that target the religious metropolis.
