Chelsea’s Transfer Window: A Threat to Even the Biggest Stars

Chelsea has had an intense week in terms of transfers, marked by the signing of new contracts and the establishment of a list of players who can leave the club while pursuing its quest for competitiveness at all positions. The team is also rationalizing its squad through sales or loans.

Tyreke George, a homegrown player, has officially left for Everton after an initial transfer fee of £18 million, with Chelsea retaining 15% of any potential profit from a future sale.

Granit Xhaka, meanwhile, has ruled out joining the Blues, choosing to stay at Sunderland despite previous interest and an offer of £8 million.

The team’s first summer signing is Italian defender Marco Balestra, who comes from Atalanta. The club sees him as a potential starter rather than just a player for the future.

Balestra had a standout season on loan at Cagliari last year and has already played 38 games (34 starts), missing only one match. His stats confirm he’s ready to compete in top European leagues.

At 21, Balestra is young but experienced enough to make an impact right away. He’ll also bring an attacking element, with captain Reece James playing more in the midfield or as a center-back in a three-man defense, and Malo Gusto’s future still unclear with several clubs interested.

The team is still looking to strengthen other positions before the transfer window closes. Negotiations are ongoing for left-back Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano.

Chelsea is also seeking center-backs, with Maxence Lacroix and Jacopo Ramon being top targets. The club is willing to pay a premium for Morgan Rogers, but Aston Villa wants to keep him, making it an expensive operation.

The team has ruled out new offers for Granit Xhaka after Sunderland decided not to sell. Valentin Barco from Strasbourg is still expected to arrive, although no official announcement has been made yet.

Chelsea is also open to selling Alejandro Garnacho, who joined last year from Manchester United for £40 million. The team won’t resist reasonable offers, but only a permanent move will be considered given the competition in the Champions League.

Other players like Trevoh Chalobah and Mamadou Sar are being put on the market at £35 million and £20 million respectively. André Santos, Enzo Fernández, and Malo Justo are also valued highly, while João Pedro is still a favorite to stay at the club.

Chelsea’s staff has yet to decide on Nicolas Jackson, William Dalap, Emmanuel Emiaga, or Marc Guio for next season, with some players set to leave via loan or permanently.

The list of players being sold includes Benoît Badiashile and Axel Disasi’s defensive partnership, as well as goalkeeper Philip Jorgensen. The club is also open to renting Kendry Bayes, David Washington, Caleb Wiley, and Shumaira Mahuka to give them more playing time and experience.
