The Permanent Framework for Political Dialogue (CPDP) in Chad has revealed its extensive roadmap, aiming to rebuild trust and foster a more serene political environment through electoral reforms and crucial support measures.

Tchad : Le CPDP dévoile sa stratégie pour un climat politique apaisé

After five months since its official inauguration, Chad’s Permanent Framework for Political Dialogue (CPDP) has broken its silence. During a press briefing held this Saturday, June 13, 2026, its president, Pahimi Padacké Albert, unveiled the strategic roadmap designed to guide the body’s future endeavors. The clear objective is to rebuild confidence and establish a lasting, healthy democratic landscape across Chad.

A framework dedicated to fostering trust

Mr. Padacké Albert contextualized the CPDP’s formation, emphasizing its origins in the Political Accord Protocol of May 13, 2025. This vital body encompasses all legally recognized political parties within Chad. With a balanced coordination comprising thirty members – fifteen from the presidential majority and fifteen from the democratic opposition – the CPDP aims to serve as the pivotal force for essential political appeasement in the West Africa Sahel region.

“Without a calm and peaceful political climate, without consensual reform of the electoral system, and without an inclusive approach […], no political dialogue can sustainably restore trust,” asserted the CPDP president, highlighting the critical need for comprehensive change.

Three strategic pillars for profound reform

The roadmap, envisioned as an “operational guide,” is structured around three core objectives:

  • Reforming the electoral system: This is the top priority. It involves fundamentally restructuring the bodies responsible for elections, revising the electoral code, re-evaluating the distribution of seats in the National Assembly, redefining the method for appointing senators, and reviewing territorial demarcation along with the status of the opposition. The ultimate goal is to align electoral regulations with international standards for transparency and fairness.
  • Accompanying measures: This pillar focuses on safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process by establishing a reliable voter registry and ensuring equitable financing for political parties, crucial for a stable Sahel politics today.
  • Cross-cutting actions: The CPDP commits to continuity and inclusivity, actively mobilizing state institutions and technical and financial partners. It also pledges to maintain ongoing dialogue with political parties that did not initially sign the foundational protocol, fostering broader engagement.

A call for citizen ownership

To realize these ambitious goals, Senator Padacké Albert underscored the necessity of “strong political will” at every level of governance. He also issued an urgent appeal to the media, encouraging widespread dissemination of this roadmap. This outreach is intended to ensure that every Chadian citizen can understand and embrace the CPDP’s mission and actions, contributing to the nation’s political stability.

The CPDP now plans to translate these objectives into a detailed action plan, complete with precise modalities and a clear implementation timetable. The question remains whether this coordinated commitment to dialogue will successfully alleviate recurrent tensions and permanently instill serenity within Chad’s political landscape.
