Strategic meeting solidifies Cameroon-Chad defence ties

Less than 24 hours after Chad’s military contingent marched in Cameroon’s National Unity Day parade, defence officials from both nations convened in Yaoundé for high-level talks. The meeting, held under the banner of deepening bilateral cooperation, underscored the shared security priorities that bind the two neighbouring countries.

Chad’s Minister of National Defence, General Issakha Malloua Djamous, led a delegation to the Ministry of Defence, where he met with Cameroon’s Minister Delegate to the Presidency in charge of Defence, Mr. Beti Assomo Joseph. The discussions centred on reinforcing joint military operations and addressing the evolving security challenges facing the subregion.

The cordial atmosphere of the meeting reflected the strong historical and operational ties between the armed forces of both countries. Both parties emphasized the need for continued collaboration to bolster regional stability and counter emerging threats.

The timing of the visit was particularly symbolic, coinciding with Chad’s participation as a guest of honour during Cameroon’s 54th National Unity Day celebrations. The Chadian National and Nomadic Guard contingent’s impressive display at the parade on Yaoundé’s 20 May Boulevard highlighted the operational excellence and mutual respect forged between the two nations’ military institutions.

Beyond military cooperation, the meeting signalled a broader commitment to nurturing the deep fraternal bonds between the Cameroonian and Chadian peoples. It also demonstrated Cameroon’s dedication to strengthening strategic partnerships with neighbouring nations to advance peace, security and continental integration.
