The pan-African platform known as the Builders of the African Economy is celebrating its 20th anniversary by honoring several nations for their impactful public policies and sectoral achievements. These distinctions highlight the countries that have significantly advanced the continent’s economic and social landscape.
A new era of recognition for public policy
For this milestone edition, a unique category was established to reward states that have demonstrated exceptional progress in strategic sectors. This initiative focuses on the effectiveness of government actions in driving national development.
The selection process was conducted by an independent jury of African experts and journalists. Their decisions were based on rigorous criteria, including the tangible impact of public policies, overall economic performance, sectoral advancements, and the level of contribution toward African integration.
Sectoral leaders across the continent
The list of honorees showcases excellence across diverse industries. The Democratic Republic of Congo was recognized for its leadership in the mining sector, while Côte d’Ivoire received accolades for its agricultural performance. The Seychelles stood out in the fields of education, training, and employment.
In North Africa, Morocco was distinguished for its advancements in health and pharmaceuticals, and Egypt was praised for its massive infrastructure projects. Kenya took the lead in technology, artificial intelligence, and innovation. Meanwhile, Algeria was rewarded for its energy sector, and South Africa was noted for its industrial and service sectors.
Other winners include Tanzania for tourism and hospitality, and Nigeria for its vibrant creative and cultural industries. Morocco also earned a distinction for its commitment to the environment and green development.
Special honors and national transformations
Several special prizes were also announced. Namibia was honored for its work in gender equality and women’s empowerment. Ghana received recognition for its initiatives regarding regional integration and the return of the African diaspora. Furthermore, Morocco was granted a special 20th-anniversary prize for the comprehensive transformations it has undergone over the past two decades.
Michel Russel Lohoré, the founding president of the platform, stated that this initiative seeks to shine a light on more than just businesses and individuals. It aims to showcase the national visions and public policies that ensure a sustainable transformation of African economies.
The jury president, Valentin Mbougueng, explained that the final selections were supported by data from international and regional organizations, specialized publications, and the direct field expertise of the jury members.
The award-winning nations will be officially celebrated during a grand gala scheduled for June 18 in Abidjan. Established in 2006, this pan-African platform continues to honor the institutions, investors, and economic actors dedicated to the growth of the continent.
