Unesco Mali joins 27th environmental fortnight launch in Bamako
The Unesco office in Mali participated in the official launch ceremony of the 27th edition of the Quinzaine de l’Environnement, held in Bamako on Saturday, June 6, 2026. The organisation’s delegation was headed by its representative, Mr. Ali Mohamed Sinane.
The opening ceremony was chaired by the Minister of State, Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Alousséni Sanou, who represented the Prime Minister and Head of Government. The event brought together several government members, environment ministers from the Confederation of Sahel States (Burkina Faso and Niger), as well as representatives from national institutions, technical and financial partners, civil society, the private sector, and the media.
This 27th edition aims to unite national initiatives to strengthen community awareness about preserving natural resources and promoting sustainable environmental practices.
Scheduled from June 5 to June 15, 2026, the fortnight will revolve around two main themes:
“The climate crisis and solutions for a safer, more resilient and more sustainable future,” in connection with World Environment Day;
“Pastures: recognize, respect, restore,” referencing the International Day to Combat Desertification and Drought.
By participating, Unesco reaffirms its commitment alongside the Government of Mali to enhance awareness, promote good environmental practices, and support the implementation of concrete actions for sustainable and resilient development.
