Political tensions escalate: Sonko issues stern warning to Senegal's new Prime Minister

In a charged political climate, Ousmane Sonko, former Prime Minister, has publicly rebuked his successor, Al Aminou Lo, over recent remarks that have fueled existing tensions between Senegal’s ruling party and the presidency.

Addressing reporters on Tuesday, Sonko did not mince his words, issuing a series of veiled warnings to the new Prime Minister in response to statements that have sparked controversy.

Sonko urged Lo to stay within his designated role, emphasizing the importance of technocratic governance. « I advise him to stick to the numbers. He claims to be a technocrat—he should limit himself to technocracy, » Sonko declared.

He went on to suggest that Lo played a significant role in the ongoing disputes between the Pastef party and the presidency. « We are fully aware of the role he has played in the problems plaguing relations between Pastef and the president. Until now, we have chosen not to disclose all the details. He should exercise caution, » Sonko warned.

The Pastef leader also criticized Lo’s conduct during the announcement of the new government lineup. « I heard him yesterday, during the unveiling of the cabinet, doling out lessons. He should start by applying them to himself, » Sonko remarked.

In a particularly forceful tone, Sonko hinted at undisclosed information that could further escalate the situation. « We know everything. We have chosen to remain silent on certain facts, but he would be wise not to provoke us, » he concluded.
