Senegal’s tough stance on unnatural acts: Sonko vows no exceptions

During a heated session of parliamentary question time at the National Assembly this Friday, Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko delivered a resolute address regarding the recently enacted legislation targeting unnatural acts. Standing firm on the new laws that impose stricter penalties, he made it unequivocally clear that enforcement will be impartial and uncompromising.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the crackdown will extend beyond minor offenders, warning that even the most influential figures—his vivid phrase, ‘big fish’—will face legal consequences. His rationale is straightforward: to completely eradicate this scourge from the nation. ‘No one is above the law,’ Sonko declared, underscoring his administration’s commitment to justice without favoritism.

In a bold display of sovereignty, Sonko also pushed back against criticism from Western nations regarding the legislation. With unwavering resolve, he asserted that Senegal will not tolerate external interference in its domestic affairs, reinforcing a long-held stance of self-determination that has defined his leadership since taking office.
