Three weeks have passed since the Confederation of African Football (CAF) made the pivotal decision to reassign the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) 2025 from Senegal. This move effectively designated Morocco as the new host, following a series of contentious incidents that marred the final moments of the previous tournament’s conclusion on January 18 in Rabat. Naturally, this verdict has been strongly disputed by the Lions of Teranga.
This Monday brought a significant development as the Senegalese Football Federation finally received the official notification and the reasoned decision from CAF regarding this revocation of their hosting rights. This critical step is essential for formally lodging an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS), as reported by digital news outlets.
TAS to deliver its verdict promptly
The CAF president has already indicated his full deference to the ultimate judgment of the TAS. While the tribunal has not yet disclosed its deliberation schedule, a ruling is anticipated within a few weeks. This decision will be conclusive, as neither of the involved parties—Senegal nor Morocco—will have the option to appeal further.
“The TAS is exceptionally well-equipped to manage such disputes, utilizing specialized and independent arbitrators,” recently stated Matthieu Reeb, the Director General of TAS, as conveyed by various media. “We recognize the eagerness of teams and fans alike to learn the final outcome swiftly, and we are committed to ensuring the arbitration process proceeds as quickly as possible, all while upholding the right of every party to a fair hearing.”
