Niger: Ousmane Sonko’s Signature Falsification Case Postponed to July 23, Khardiata Tandian Remains in Detention

The Dakar Tribunal has once again postponed the verdict in the forgery case involving former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and Khardiata Tandian. The new date for the decision is set for July 23, 2026.

According to Les Echos, the tribunal has once again delayed the proceedings due to the absence of Cherif Zeyni Abidin Sy, who is being presented as a suspected accomplice in the case.

The court also rejected Khardiata Tandian’s request for provisional release, despite her lawyer arguing that she should be granted one given her long detention and the potential severity of the penalty.

Tandian’s lawyer pointed out that she is a married woman with an infant child, and that her prolonged imprisonment could have negative social consequences. However, the prosecutor opposed this request, citing concerns about public order and Tandian’s ability to represent herself in court.

The defense argued that there was no risk of pressure on witnesses or disruption to public order, and that Tandian had already been heard in court before, making it impossible for any alteration of facts.

Ultimately, the tribunal rejected Tandian’s request for provisional release, leaving her detained until the verdict is delivered on July 23, 2026.
