Niamey hosts high-level AES talks on security cooperation

Niamey, July 27, 2026 — High-level consultations among leaders of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) are intensifying as the region marks the third anniversary of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland’s (CNSP) rise to power in Niger. Today, General Mohamed Toumba, Niger’s Minister of State for Interior, Public Security, and Territorial Administration, welcomed Bassolma Bazié, President of Burkina Faso’s AES National Commission, for a working meeting at the Interior Ministry.

Visiting Niamey to attend the commemorative events, Bazié engaged in discussions with Toumba on pressing challenges facing the AES member states. The talks centered on strengthening regional security frameworks and deepening institutional collaboration to tackle shared threats.

Advancing regional security and stability through collaboration

During the meeting, Bazié commended Niger’s proactive measures in bolstering security and protecting civilian populations. He highlighted the country’s role as a stabilizing force within the AES framework, emphasizing the need for unified regional responses to emerging threats.
