Malian Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga attended the opening ceremony of panels focused on topics such as “Media literacy: a civic issue in the digital age” and “Information disorder: the MDM trio and verification tools,” as well as “Teaching and training in media literacy.”
Morocco, the guest of honour, was strongly represented at the forum held from June 3 to June 6, 2026.
Aziz Boucetta, publishing director of Panorapost.com, stated that “the pan-African family gathers in Mali to discuss Africa’s problems, which are entirely surmountable once we become aware of them.” He added that “Morocco accepted Mali’s invitation and will bring its perspective while hoping to forge partnerships for Africa’s development.”
Aboubacar Abdoulwahidou Maïga, director general of the journalism school and a panelist, noted that “the rate of connected Malians rose from 2% in 2012 to 35% today, of which 80% are under 35. Within this segment, 60% get their information through social media.” He emphasised the insufficient digitisation of Malian media, without which the media industry cannot be profitable.
Prime Minister Brigadier General Abdoulaye Maïga remarked, “Our sub-region faces complex security challenges that are often accompanied by an intense battle of perceptions. Modern conflicts are no longer fought solely on the military ground but also in the digital and informational media sphere. In this context, the journalist becomes a strategic actor for state stability, social cohesion, and societal resilience.” He concluded by insisting on strengthening national and African capacities: “It is important to enhance the professional capacity of media so they can fully fulfil their mission.”
