Lens vs PSG: why the Ligue 1 showdown won’t air on Ligue 1+
When Paris Saint-Germain step onto the pitch at Lens on Wednesday night, they could clinch their 14th Ligue 1 championship title in front of thousands of traveling supporters. Luis Enrique’s side sit six points clear at the summit with one match remaining in the season, and a victory would effectively seal the deal before their upcoming UEFA Champions League final against Arsenal on May 30.
Despite the enormous stakes, subscribers to Ligue 1+ will need to tune into beIN Sports to watch the clash between the capital club and the Lensois.
Why this clash was moved—and why beIN Sports kept the broadcast rights
The fixture was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 11 at 5:15 PM, a time slot reserved for beIN Sports’ Ligue 1 coverage. However, Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League quarter-final clash against Liverpool—first leg on April 8 and second leg on April 14—left their schedule packed with three matches in under a week, including two away trips. The club requested a postponement, which Ligue 1 authorities granted despite opposition from Lens.
The rescheduled date—May 13—did not change the broadcaster’s rights. beIN Sports retained exclusive coverage for the match, even after the fixture was moved, meaning Ligue 1+ subscribers will miss out on this decisive showdown.
If PSG triumph at Bollaert-Delelis, they’ll celebrate their 14th Ligue 1 title immediately. If not, they’ll await the final matchday showdown against Paris FC, while Lens will face Lyon. With their six-point lead, however, the suspense for PSG is already minimal.
