learning mission on digital education: unesco yaounde hosts tchadian delegation for ICT integration

The regional UNESCO office for Central Africa is actively supporting member states in their efforts to modernize national education systems through practical guidance and collaborative initiatives.

A five-day study mission focused on capitalizing best practices for integrating Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in education took place in Yaoundé from April 20 to 24, 2026. This initiative aligns with Chad’s strategic vision to enhance educational quality, accessibility, and inclusivity nationwide.

The mission directly supports the Republic of Chad’s education modernization agenda, including key national frameworks such as the 2022–2026 National Development Plan, the Chad Connexion 2030 initiative, the National Teacher Policy (PNET), and the Chad School Refoundation Program (PRET). These efforts are backed by the Global Partnership for Education and implemented with technical assistance from UNESCO and UNICEF.

In a challenging context marked by structural constraints, ICT integration emerges as a critical enabler to boost teaching quality, expand education access, and strengthen governance across Chad’s education sector. The PRET specifically aims to introduce progressive digital transformation through low-complexity, locally adapted solutions that align with national realities.

To advance these goals, Chad’s Ministry of National Education and Civic Promotion organized this learning mission, drawing inspiration from Cameroon’s proven expertise in educational technology—both in formal and non-formal education settings.

The mission’s program featured institutional meetings, technical visits, and interactive workshops with key Cameroonian education stakeholders. At the Ministry of Basic Education (MINEDUB), a technical session convened specialized departments, academic partners, and institutional leaders to explore Cameroon’s ICT integration model in depth—covering pedagogical, curricular, organizational, and infrastructural dimensions.

Discussions delved into teacher training programs, digital tools in use, institutional coordination mechanisms, and partnerships driving the country’s education system digital transformation.

Beyond knowledge sharing, the mission followed a rigorous methodology combining document analysis, stakeholder interviews, field observations, and collaborative working sessions. This structured approach aims to identify critical success factors, document transferable practices, and tailor lessons to Chad’s specific context.

Expected outcomes include a comprehensive mission report, actionable recommendations, and a prioritized action plan to guide Chad’s ICT integration efforts in education.

regional cooperation for resilient education systems

This initiative underscores the UNESCO regional office’s role as a catalyst for cooperation and innovation among Central African states. It also contributes to a broader regional effort to establish sustainable mechanisms for sharing best practices across sub-Saharan education systems.

By fostering mutual learning and adaptation of proven solutions, the mission strengthens educational resilience and accelerates digital-era transformation across participating countries.
