Ivoirian politics: Ahoua Don Mello unveils new sovereignist party

The Ivorian political landscape has just witnessed a significant shift as Dr. Ahoua Don Mello, a former presidential candidate, announced the transformation of his support movement into a full-fledged political party. This strategic move, revealed during a landmark assembly in Abidjan on July 11, 2026, marks a bold step toward reshaping the nation’s democratic discourse with a sovereignist and alternative vision.

The decision, adopted by an overwhelming majority, was formalized through a resolution calling for the establishment of a new political entity. Dr. Ahoua Don Mello has been entrusted with leading the process, which will culminate in the party’s official launch pending its founding congress. The communiqué, disseminated via social media on July 12, outlined the organizational details of the assembly, presided by Ipou Ludovic, with Ahile Fernand (Léo Côte d’Ivoire) as secretary and Brou Jean-Baptiste as rapporteur.

The initiative follows extensive reflections led by a commission chaired by Me Sery Zokou, including key figures such as Kouamé Kouakou (OK), cabinet director, and Claudel Guiguy, Askène Cissé, Franck Stéphane Dedy, and Arsène Touho. The commission’s report, presented by Sery Sara Soko (deputy cabinet director) and supported by Mathieu N’Guatta (chief of staff), Sara Dominique, Ami Traoré, and Danon Goubo Armel Fabrice (Atho Belé), emphasized the urgent need to formalize the movement into a structured political force.

This new party aims to position itself as a proposal-driven, inclusive, and transformative force, grounded in values of democracy, social justice, good governance, solidarity, and national sovereignty. Its mission is to contribute to Côte d’Ivoire’s development and renaissance, offering an alternative path for the nation’s future.

Speaking to the assembly, Dr. Ahoua Don Mello expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and outlined the core principles of the emerging political project. He extended a call to patriotic, progressive, democratic, and sovereignist forces to unite behind this initiative, envisioning a more just, prosperous, and united Côte d’Ivoire. The preparatory work for the party’s founding congress, dubbed the « Congress of Pioneers, » has already begun, with the date to be announced in due course.

The assembly concluded on a note of brotherhood, cohesion, and hope, with participants reaffirming their commitment to building this new political force. The movement is envisioned as a service to Côte d’Ivoire, Africa, and a multipolar world, embodying the aspirations of a generation seeking meaningful change.
