Côte d’Ivoire takes giant leap in digital inclusion as UN and Orange join forces
Abidjan — Côte d’Ivoire is set to accelerate its digital transformation journey following the signing of a landmark agreement between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Orange Côte d’Ivoire. The strategic partnership aims to bridge digital divides, empower young people—especially young women—and foster entrepreneurship through innovative digital solutions.
Finalized on May 21, 2026, in Abidjan, this collaboration reflects a shared vision to drive sustainable development and reduce inequality by leveraging digital tools. The initiative will focus on equipping youth with essential digital skills, nurturing startups and entrepreneurial hubs, and extending digital access to underserved rural and vulnerable communities.
The partnership will be anchored in the Orange Digital Center ecosystem, a key platform for digital inclusion and youth entrepreneurship support. Through this hub, participants will gain access to training, mentorship, and resources needed to thrive in Côte d’Ivoire’s growing digital economy.
Blerta Cela, UNDP Resident Representative in Côte d’Ivoire, emphasized the significance of this collaboration: « This partnership marks a pivotal step toward accelerating digital inclusion and youth entrepreneurship in Côte d’Ivoire. By uniting the strengths of the private sector and international partners, we’re building a more equitable and sustainable future. »
Mamadou Bamba, CEO of Orange Côte d’Ivoire, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to empowering young people and vulnerable populations by creating tangible opportunities in the digital sector. « Through this partnership, we’re strengthening Côte d’Ivoire’s digital ecosystem and aligning our efforts with national development goals, » he stated.
The partners aim to elevate Côte d’Ivoire’s standing in the global digital economy by aligning their initiatives with the National Development Plan (NDP) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This collaboration underscores Côte d’Ivoire’s strategic push to become a regional leader in digital innovation and inclusive growth.
