Chad authorities crack down on illegal slaughter ring in N’Djamena

Chadian authorities have dismantled an illegal slaughter network operating in the capital, N’Djamena, seizing over 100 infected cattle and 40 sheep earmarked for public consumption during the Tabaski festivities. The joint operation, involving the Ministry of Livestock, veterinary health coordination, and security forces, uncovered the clandestine setup in a Machaga district property within the 8th arrondissement.

The animals, procured by an unnamed international NGO in collaboration with local accomplices, were intended as charitable donations for Tabaski celebrations. This discovery has prompted immediate health safeguards to prevent potential disease transmission to residents.

Following the raid, Dr. Ousmane Yosko Souhoumi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Livestock and Animal Production, visited the site to assess the situation. He condemned the operation, ordering the incineration of deceased livestock and mandating veterinary care for surviving animals. Enhanced monitoring measures were also announced to protect public health.
