The Burkina Faso women’s national team concluded another series of friendly matches preparing for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Following a goalless draw, they again shared the spoils with Mali, this time 2-2, on Sunday, 7 June 2026 at the Stade du 4 Août in Ouagadougou.
The Malian side struck first in this friendly. Fatoumata Diarra put the Aiglonnes ahead in the 10th minute (0-1). The Etalons remained composed and regained their rhythm, controlling possession and forcing Mali to chase the game.
A shot came back off the crossbar, and Deborah Guira, following up, tucked the ball into the net for the equaliser (1-1).
Despite the technical quality of the Malians, the Burkinabe imposed their style. From another well-worked move, Judicaëlle Ouoba fired into the top corner, leaving the Malian goalkeeper with no chance. Coach Pascal Sawadogo’s players went ahead (2-1), which remained the score at halftime.
Mali fight back
In the second half, the Etalons enjoyed more ball possession while the Malians attacked but could not break through the organised Burkinabe defence.
However, a penalty converted by Aissata Traoré brought Mali level (2-2). That proved to be the final score, though both teams pushed until the final whistle.
In the first meeting, the two sides had played out a 0-0 stalemate. These matches are part of preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals scheduled for Morocco.
Burkina Faso are in a group with Côte d’Ivoire, Tanzania and South Africa. Mali share a group with Ghana, Cape Verde and Cameroon.
The tournament runs from 25 July to 16 August 2026. This friendly once again allows Pascal Sawadogo and his players to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the competition.
