Bénin: advanced police training programs launched in Porto-Novo

The National Superior Police School in Porto-Novo, Bénin, served as the venue for the official inauguration of pivotal preparatory training programs on Wednesday, May 14, 2026. These comprehensive courses are designed to equip future leaders with the necessary qualifications, including the Superior Security Studies Certificate (BESS), the Staff Diploma for Security Forces (DEMES), and the Special Staff Diploma for Security Forces.

This significant academic commencement marks a crucial stride in elevating the operational capabilities of Bénin’s internal security apparatus. Presiding over the ceremony was Inspector General of Police, 2nd class Kokou Brice Allowanou, the esteemed Director General of the Republican Police. The gathering attracted a distinguished assembly of military dignitaries, political and administrative officials, senior Republican Police executives, and prominent academics.

Divisional Police Commissioner Gilles Yekpe, who directs the National Superior Police School, outlined the ambitious objectives of these specialized programs. He emphasized their role in preparing trainees for assuming high-level responsibilities within the security sector. Commissioner Yekpe particularly underscored the imperative for participants to cultivate a forward-thinking perspective on national, sub-regional, and international security challenges. He stated, “For this session, the National Superior Police School has enlisted highly qualified instructors, experienced national and international speakers, and a dedicated educational support system committed to your success. The curriculum will notably encompass issues of police strategy, human and operational resource management, command principles, as well as internal and cross-border security.”

Inspector General of Police Kokou Brice Allowanou reiterated the stringent demands associated with these continuous training initiatives and the high expectations placed upon these future senior security force leaders. “These courses represent an invaluable opportunity to enhance your professional competencies, foster your leadership acumen, and prepare you for the elevated responsibilities that await you tomorrow,” he affirmed. The ceremony concluded with an insightful inaugural conference led by the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences from the University of Parakou. The address explored the critical theme: “Rule of law, Republican Police, and security challenges.”
