The Minister of Mines, Fatimé Haram Acyl, has expressed her pride in the strategic vision of the Société nationale d’exploitation minière et de commercialisation (SONEMIC), highlighting groundbreaking local innovations that are reshaping the country’s mining sector.
Local innovations driving transparency and efficiency
During the presentation of SONEMIC’s annual report and an overview of its mandate, the minister emphasized the significance of a locally developed software system that tracks mining permits, integrates with customs and tax authorities, and currently manages 147 active permits. This digital tool not only enhances transparency but also significantly improves the reliability of mining operations in Chad.
Strategic mapping and international collaborations for economic transformation
Minister Fatimé Haram Acyl outlined the government’s commitment to mapping mineral resources across key provinces to ensure accurate data collection and prevent conflicts. In addition, ongoing discussions with international partners are paving the way for transformative projects, including water transformation initiatives with the United Arab Emirates and the establishment of an antimony refinery. These efforts reflect a broader strategy to structurally diversify and strengthen the national economy.
Unified leadership and communication for sectoral growth
The minister underscored the importance of cohesive leadership and effective communication, stating, “Strong communication is essential to showcase our achievements, align our vision, and unite behind the Head of State’s policies.” She stressed that a unified approach is critical to positioning the mining and oil sectors as engines for job creation and sustainable development.
The SONEMIC’s annual report marks a pivotal moment in Chad’s mining industry, with local innovation, resource mapping, and international partnerships setting the stage for profound sectoral transformation. “There is work for everyone, and Chad will emerge stronger,” the minister affirmed, urging all stakeholders to actively contribute to this collective momentum.
