Senegal’s presidential advisor dismisses secret pact claims against Diomaye Faye

With the PASTEF party’s highly anticipated congress just two days away, Advisor to the Senegalese Presidency Aldiouma Sow has publicly addressed Ousmane Sonko’s recent remarks. In a firm rebuttal, Sow defended President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, categorically denying allegations of a so-called ‘secret pact’ allegedly formed during Diomaye Faye’s detention at Cap Manuel.

Sow emphasized that the President never engaged in any clandestine agreements while in custody, stressing his unwavering commitment to his political principles throughout the 2024 transition process. ‘Bassirou Diomaye Faye remained steadfast in his dedication to serving the Senegalese people,’ he stated, dismissing claims that the President participated in efforts to undermine the public’s electoral sovereignty.

Further dismantling the narrative, Sow highlighted the President’s belief in political dialogue—not as a temporary tactic to manipulate power dynamics, but as a core value shaping his governance approach. ‘For him, dialogue is not a tool of convenience; it is the foundation of his leadership,’ Sow explained.

Amidst growing speculation within PASTEF’s ranks and among its supporters ahead of the pivotal congress, Sow’s statements reignite discussions about the relationship between Senegal’s top leadership figures and the future direction of the government.
